Social distress is increasing throughout the world. In developing countries even the provision of basic food and medical services is inadequate, whereas in Germany for example, state provision for social welfare fails a growing number of people.

In all such situations, it is children and young people who are especially vulnerable.

In Sanskrit, the old Indian language, the word PADMA means lotus. The lotus plant grows in muddy soil, but the flower itself has not a single trace of that mud.

Like the lotus, children should be able to develop happily, unmarked by the impossible conditions that surround them. It is the aim of the Padma Children’s Foundation to support projects that will make this a reality.
